{ Exchanges & Seconds & and Stalkers...Oh My! } #5

November 11, 2013
Hello Everyone!

This week seemed like the longest week of my life with all of the traveling for visa's. I also did exchanges with the sister training leader. SHE CAME TO ME! So I had to show her the ropes in my area...eeek! You can imagine how freaked out I was.. I don't even know my area that well! Just one month and I use a huge map to navigate the way! Plus she speaks absolutely no English! haha Thankfully, it was such a good experience! Hermana Oliva came with me to all of our appointments and I had a great time with forcing myself to speak. Thankfully I was flying with the lessons. It made me realize how much I really do love my investigators and the members of this ward. This day was a huge blessing for me :) My confidence in the language has grown so much and although sometimes people don't understand my questions or I say the wrong words or I ask people things when they've already clearly talked about it.. who cares... The mistakes are what I learn from, right?  haha I'll just keep telling myself that...
Eva is progressing so well! She always wants to come to church with us. This weekend was the      District Conference and she bought us Empanadas after the Saturday night meeting!
President Thurgood and his wife came down to speak at it as well and it was so great. The talks were super inspiring. We just love her so much! Her testimony really strengthens mine as well.
Funny story.. the other day we were at lunch and Hermana Rodriguez said that she didn't want a second helping of food and they literally all gave her the death stare.. Just imagine...
a huge family.. so awkward!! I am so scared now to say "no" to a second plate! Then they immediately started cleaning up and we asked if we could share a scripture with them and the wife said "You know what? I'm really busy and I have somewhere to go "... Haha it was so funny and we were like uhhhh okay...

Elder Holland comes this Saturday so that means a zone field trip to Banfield! So excited!
There is a talk that I recently read that really inspired me! All about our potential.
Here is a portion of it...
"With all my capacity I encourage you to discover who you really are. I invite you to look beyond the daily routine of life. I urge you to discern through the Spirit your divinely given capacities. I exhort you to prayerfully make worthy choices that will lead you to realize your full potential.
I will share one sure way you can begin to accomplish such growth. I have seen valiant missionaries brave icy wind, resist torrential rains, slosh through slippery, muddy streets, and conquer fear. Often they bear a powerful testimony, only to be rejected and roundly criticized. I have seen them struggle to communicate truth in a new language. Sometimes the listener stares in puzzled silence. Then there dawns the shattering realization that the message is not understood. But I wouldn’t change any of it, even if I could, because there are those golden moments of success that make all of the hardships worthwhile. Such rewards come when the Spirit touches a heart for eternal good because someone like you was there. To share truth in difficult circumstances is to treasure it more. When you push against the boundaries of experience into the twilight of the unknown, the Lord will strengthen you. The beauty of your eternal soul will begin to unfold.
The challenges are greater now than ever. That is why the Lord needs more capable, better prepared missionaries. He needs those who are clean and pure so that they can be guided by the Spirit and can testify with converting power. Qualify to be one of those exceptional missionaries. It will not be easy. But when was anything really worthwhile easy?"

Inspired....
I am recognizing that prayer has become so important to me even for the little things!  We prayed that our toilet would stop flooding the bathroom, then we found the missing piece that helped us fix it!  Prayer for the big things... when a strange man with a bandana entered the chapel when we were studying all by ourselves we weren't harmed! haha Seriously though, I'm still alive and safe but yes.. scariest moment of my life!
The holidays are coming up and I hope you all are staying nice and warm! Praying for you daily and just truckin' along here in good old Argentina! Love you all so much! Sorry for the short letter! The weeks are flying by and we're staying busy! Until next Monday! :)                                                     -Hermana Barrett
XOXOXOXO

  1. The computer or the connection has been "glitchy". I can't seem to fix the white areas, so here is the post anyway.
